Frequently Asked Questions

Claims

To submit a claim, your completed claims form along with a final invoice and proof of payment needs to be submitted to us at WPetClaims@wfs.co.za. The sooner you notify us of a claim, the better!

Claims must be submitted within 3 months of the treatment date to be considered.

We aim to refund claims within 24 hours on day-to-day and routine care claims and 48 hours on in-hospital and pre-authorisation claims. This is dependent on your claims form and supporting documentation being complete and legible.

You can claim for your pet as many times as you need to under the Hospital or Accident Plan if these claims do not exceed your overall annual limit. Vet visits under the Classic or Premium Plan are limited to 4 visits per year up to your plan’s benefit limit. Your overall annual limit depends on your chosen plan and can be found in your policy document.

General

You can go to any registered veterinarian of your choice within South Africa.

Your application for pet insurance will not be denied if your pet’s vaccinations are not up-to-date. However, we do require that your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date for claims relating to illnesses such as parvo, distemper, kennel cough and any illness that could have been prevented by up-to-date vaccinations.

Yes, these are the maximum entry ages which apply:

  • Small dogs & cats must be younger than 11 years at inception of policy
  • Medium dogs must be younger than 10 years at inception of policy
  • Large dogs must be younger than 9 years at inception of policy
  • Pets must be older than 8 weeks at inception of policy

The things we don’t cover are called exclusions. These can be found in your policy document.

Routine Care will be covered under the Routine Care and Routine Care Booster benefit up to the benefit limit. This includes vaccinations, microchipping, anal gland expression, tick and flea treatment, deworming, elective sterilisation, dental scaling, and polishing.

If you have chosen to add our optional Routine Care Booster benefit to your plan, you can use this to cover payments towards Sterilisation, Vaccinations, microchipping, anal glad expression, Dental Scaling and polishing, anal gland expression, tick and flee and deworming treatment.

Cover

Unfortunately, any condition relating to an event that occurred before applying for cover will not be covered by your policy, these exclusions may be term dependent and can be found in your policy document.

We will pay for the burial or cremation of your pet (up to certain limits) if your chosen plan includes our Burial & Cremation benefit. This benefit and its limits depend on your chosen plan and can be found in your policy document.

Elective sterilisation will be covered under the Routine Care benefit. We do have a top up option, Routine Care Booster, to increase your available Routine Care Benefit.

Dental Scaling and Polishing will be covered under the Routine Care and Routine Care Booster benefit up to the benefit limit.

Medically justifiable dentistry will be covered under the Vet Visit Benefit.

However, please note that the pre-diagnosed condition will only be covered as per the cover limits on the original plan when the diagnosis was made.

You will have a 30 day waiting period to use the day-to-day benefits’ new limits, and 60 days for in hospital benefits. During this waiting period, you can still claim under the benefits of the old benefit limits.

Euthanasia is covered (up to certain limits).

We will pay for someone to look after your pet while you are hospitalised (up to certain limits) if your chosen plan includes our Kennel Cover benefit. This benefit and its limits depend on your chosen plan and can be found in your policy document.

Policy

Absolutely! We understand that your circumstances may change, so you are able to amend your policy when you need to. All you have to do is let us know by giving us one calendar months’ notice, provided that your pet is not over the maximum entry age.

Any requests to amend your policy can be emailed to us at WPet@wfs.co.za or give us a call on 087 222 7787.

Pre-authorisation is not required for every claim, however, it will provide you with peace-of-mind at claims stage. We will always communicate the outcome of your pre-authorisation request in writing.

To apply for pre-authorisation, your completed pre-authorisation form needs to be submitted to us at WPetAuths@wfs.co.za. The sooner you apply for pre-authorisation, the better!

You can cancel your policy at any time by giving us one calendar months’ notice. If you cancel your policy within the cooling-off period (within 7 days from your application date), any premiums and fees that have been debited will be refunded to your nominated bank account.

Yes, waiting periods are applicable:

  • Accidents are covered immediately after your first successful debit order.
  • 60 day waiting period for hospital claims.
  • 30 day waiting period for day-to-day and routine care claims.
  • 12 month waiting period for pre-existing conditions.
  • 12 month waiting period for congenital and hereditary conditions.

Premiums

We recommend that you pay your vet directly and claim a refund from us thereafter. Claim refunds, less the applicable excess, are paid to you using the bank account details that you provided to us during the application process. You can also pre-arrange for us to pay your vet directly for your claim, less the applicable excess.

We will collect your premiums via a monthly debit order. You will need to provide us with your bank account details during the application process.

Excesses are applicable. The excess is the amount you have to pay in when it comes time to claim. Excess amounts can be waived by adding the optional Excess Buster or Routine Care Booster benefits to your policy.
